Four Lawrence University students were awarded a Henry Merritt Wriston Scholarship. The award was first established in 1975 to honor the eighth president of Lawrence. It is given to those students whose "academic excellence is reflected by their wide-ranging interests, balanced personalities, and the multiple abilities one associates with a truly educated person." The 2023 recipients include Sydney Closson, Shira Hanovich, Colin Hutton, and Taylor Svoboda.

Dylan Donnelly is the recipient of a Presser Foundation Music Scholarship at Lawrence University. It is awarded annually to an outstanding music major entering the final year of study.

Isabel Dorn is the recipient of the Charlotte Wood Prize in English at Lawrence University, awarded to the student with the best essay entered in an annual competition.

Madeleine Tevonian is the recipient of Lawrence University's Graham Waring Prize in Religious Studies, awarded to a student for the best paper written in a religious studies course.

Lydia Jensen is a recipient of the Alexander Wiley Prize at Lawrence University, awarded to an undergraduate who has, in his or her college years, most demonstrated a principled independence of thought, moral courage, and creative commitment to a significant cause.

Charlie Wetzel is the recipient of the Elizabeth Richardson Award in Studio Art at Lawrence University, awarded annually to women excelling in studio art.

Owen Gregory Brady is the recipient of the Pi Kappa Lambda Jazz Composition Award at Lawrence University, given for exceptional originality and skill in jazz music composition.

Olivia Sibbet is the recipient of the Hicks Prize in Fiction at Lawrence University, awarded annually to a student for the best submitted short story.

Lawrence University held its 2023 Commencement ceremony on June 11, celebrating 310 graduates. "On behalf of the full faculty and staff of this university, I tell you that our hearts are bursting with pride," President Laurie A. Carter told the graduates. "As you walk forward into this next phase of life, know that we believe in you, that we walk with you, and that we wish you the very best."

The Lawrence University community gathered virtually in June for a Commencement celebration unlike any other in the school's 171-year history. Held online due to the COVID-19 pandemic that moved Spring Term classes to distance learning, the ceremony celebrated the accomplishments of nearly 270 Lawrentians in the Class of 2020. "We are at a time like no other, when both far too much-and not nearly enough-has changed," President Mark Burstein told the graduates and their families, all looking in from locations around the world. Congratulatory messages from faculty and staff, shared via video and an online chat, were mixed with the traditional speeches and the conferring of degrees. Commencement speaker Natasha Trethewey, a Pulitzer Prize-winning poet whose book, "Native Guard," has been on the Freshman Studies reading list at Lawrence for five years, implored the graduates to find inspiration in the arts as they make sense of a world that has changed mightily since they first stepped on campus four years ago.

Charles Brailovsky, a Lawrence University psychology major with a longtime fascination with space, has found exciting ways to combine his passions in a NASA internship. He is taking a break from his senior year at Lawrence to work as a virtual environments lab intern at the George C. Marshall Space Flight Center in Alabama. His job is to help program and design virtual and augmented reality simulations for NASA projects.

Emily Dorr, a music education major at Lawrence University, has been committed to building community among others at Lawrence who are aspiring to teach music. As president of Lawrence's chapter of the National Association for Music Education (NAfME), the senior from St. Paul, Minnesota, led a recent annual symposium that featured an international guest.

Lawrence University students Amber Newman, a senior from Star Prairie, Wisconsin, and Madeline Taylor, a senior from Ames, Iowa, worked together to research microbial environments and present their findings at the recent American Geophysical Union (AGU) conference in Chicago.

The global studies and studio art double major from Guaynabo, Puerto Rico, was one of four student winners in the contest held in Chicago during Fall Term.

Sela Dombrower, a Lawrence University junior from Boulder, Colorado, used her growing Arabic skills to get the most out of her study abroad experience. Dombrower studied in Amman, Jordan, from August through December. A math and linguistics major, she found it to be a great opportunity to learn colloquial Arabic and gain confidence in communicating.

Lawrence University men's basketball player Brad Sendell is named Midwest Conference Player of the Year.

Lawrence University women's basketball star Kenya Earl etched her name in the school's record book Saturday, and she did it in winning fashion. Earl broke Lawrence's career scoring record as part of the Vikings' 66-48 Midwest Conference victory over Grinnell College at Alexander Gymnasium. Earl scored 12 points to push her career total to 1,489 points and broke the record of 1,487 set by Lawrence Hall of Famer Claire Getzoff in 2006.
